BINGO – IN DANGER OF CLOSING!

Our St. Bees Bingo is in critical need of more volunteers!  If we do not have enough volunteers trained an in place by December 19th, we will have to close our Bingo.  Please consider volunteering one Tuesday evening a month to keep our Bingo open.  We are most in need of callers!

The revenue that the parish receives from bingo is significant ($75,000+ annually) with the majority of the funds going to the school.  It is the main fundraiser for our school. With Bingo gone it would be a great loss felt by our parish and school community.  PLEASE,   Contact the Bingo office at 604-596-1833 if you can help.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD DRIVE

The grade 5 students are organizing our annual food drive for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  The goal this year is to collect over 1000 non-perishable food items.  We are excited to announce that we raised 2095 non-perishable food items for SVDP Society.  As a result, the school will have a PJ Day on Friday Dec. 1st.  Grade 7 brought in the most cans and will have a class party.  Grade 1 who brought in the second most cans will watch a class movie for their efforts.

Lights of Hope 2017

We are excited to once again announce our 3rd Annual Lights of Hope Campaign.  Packages will be given to each student tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 16th.  Please read below to learn more of how you can participate in this fundraising event.

RCMP ADVISORY

Two of our students were approached and followed by a man on a bicycle as they walked home after school. The students returned to the school and the RCMP were contacted. The man is said to be caucasian, balding and with a moustache.  He was on a bike that was pulling a trailer.  We ask that as a community we remain extra villigent in keeping our children safe.  If you have a child that walk home from school, please speak with them about staying safe on the streets and what to do if a situation like this were to occur.  The RCMP congratulated the two students on doing the right thing by not engaging with the person, then returning to the school immediately and finally contacting the police.

Reminders

STUDENT CONFERENCES

Research has shown that parental involvement is the most important factor in a student’s success at school. The first student conference of the school year provides a great opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to share insights and information about him/her.

Student  conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 16th and Friday, November 17th.

We strongly encourage all parents to attend as these conferences provide an excellent opportunity to establish valuable communication between parents and teachers.

2018-2019 APPLICATION FORMS

We are now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year.  With increased interest in our school, the demand for spots has also increases.  We are estimating 20 or less spots for Kindergarten and only one or two spots per grade from 1 – 7.  If you know of someone who would like to attend St. Bernadette, please have them pick up an application form from the school/parish or download one from our website.

In the event of weather conditions, or unforeseen circumstances, the pastor, chairperson and principal will decide whether or not the school will be open on that day. Notice of school closures will be announced on CKNW 980 on the AM dial and posted on the school website when possible.

The Classroom Rep for your child will contact you when there is a school closure.  It is important that you notify the rep that you received the information.  They may have to happen more than once if you have multiple children in the school.

Please do not call the school; it is important that we keep all lines free in case of an emergency.
