Every session has a separate topic for parents and these topics change from year to year.   Each session is reviewed and updated each year so you can expect a fresh presentation even if you have attended specific sessions previously.  The objective of this evening is for parents to gain confidence in their ability to communicate about sexuality to their children.

E: mdeslauriers@sjp2academy.com T: 604-560-8210
An Information Evening will be held on Wed. Jan. 30th @ 6:30 pm for all interested parents at St. John Paul II Academy.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

In the event of weather conditions, or unforeseen circumstances, the pastor, chairperson and principal will decide whether or not the school will be open on that day. Notice of school closures will be announced on CKNW 980 on the AM dial and posted on the school website when possible. Please do not call the school; it is important that we keep all lines free in case of an emergency.

Several factors go into making the call on a snow day including:

• Information on current road conditions

• Conditions are monitored throughout the night, and again at approximately 6:00am by the Principal.

• Amount of snow and ice accumulated

• Duration and timing of the snow and/or ice event

• Temperature and wind chill (for safety of walkers and students at bus stops) – we use a -20 wind chill for a sustained amount of time as a “cold weather closure” guide.

• School building conditions (electricity, heat, water)

• School parking lot conditions (safety, accessibility)

• Current weather conditions, along with predicted weather, but closures cannot be determined solely on predictions.

• Consultation with the pastor, PEC chair and other nearby Catholic school, including Holy Cross Secondary

As a reminder, although we do our best in the decision-making process, if you the parent feels as though it is not safe for your child to attend school, you have the option of keeping your child at home.

USED UNIFORMS

Used uniforms are needed to help re-stock the shelves for our used uniforms.  If you have any used uniform items to donate, please contact Angeline at:  useduniforms@stbernadette.ca

All proceeds generated from the sales of used uniforms comes directly back to the school.

WHISTLER SKI TRIP

Here you will find some tips and reminders so that your trip to Whistler tomorrow is a great one!

• You must arrive at the school by 6am.  Mr. van der Pauw will be arriving at the school at 5:50am to open up the school.  The bus leave at 6:15am sharp and will not wait for late arrivals.  If you miss the bus, it is your responsibility to find your way up to the mountain.  Refunds are not given for students who miss the trip for any reason.

• Leave your snow suits and other warm items in your bag. Getting overheated can lead to you feeling sick.

• Have a good breakfast and pack a healthy lunch.

• If you get car sick easily, make sure you have things you can take to make the trip more comfortable.  Taking natural gravol with ginger can help calm the stomach.

• Don’t forget anything.  Packing with a list and doing it the night before really helps.

• Layer up. Wear breathable, layered clothing. No Jeans.

• No electronics. Leave your devices at home.

• We will notify parents of any delays or changes in the trip via the classroom reps. We are expected to be back at the school at 6pm, however traffic is unpredictable.

• Put your name on your gear.

Students who are renting will receive everything they need to have a great time on the mountain (snowboarding/skiing equipment, helmet, and a GPS unit).  They will not receive goggles.
