Excellence in Learning, both Human and Divine. A Catholic School, like the Church itself, is a faith community centered on Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We integrate this faith in our daily lives, through the celebration of the Mass, prayer, and liturgical celebrations. Not only does Jesus teach us the truth about the world, and ourselves, but He also gathers us into a community of love where the joys and achievements, the needs and the burdens of each, become the concerns of all. The purpose of the school is the purpose of the Church. This purpose is to communicate, in theory and practice, the teachings of our faith. This means following a way of life based on the religious values of that teaching. This is a high purpose, demanding commitment and sacrifice. St. Bernadette School has done well in making that purpose a reality in our community. Our school continues to offer all who enter it the means and possibility of growing and developing in that way of life.St. Bernadette School, under the umbrella of Star of the Sea School, South Surrey, started with 19 Kindergarten and Grade 1 students. One year later, the present school building, on the parish site, was completed and opened its doors in September 1985 to 40 students. 2006 saw the completion of our new gym, expanded library and playground. St. Bernadette is one of 41 Catholic elementary schools in the Vancouver Archdiocese. It is respected for progressive teaching methods and a dedicated teaching and support staff. Our current enrolment stands at over 205 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7, and we continue to build a community of Christ in which God’s creation and His desires for all of us are revealed.St. Bernadette School is committed to providing a Catholic environment in which children may grow as unique persons. This development focuses on the whole child;spiritually, physically, intellectually, and socially, so that they become caring members of our society. The active involvement of the parents is a key element of our school life; their dedication, sacrifices, loyalty, and commitment, through parent participation programs, all help to make St. Bernadette an excellent school. The co-operation, support and dedication of the pastor, parents, teachers, and parishioners have assured its success. The school is, and must continue to be, an active part of the parish as a whole. The dedication of the founders of our parish set the cornerstones for the development of our faith. Although perhaps, they did not realize the fruits of their labour, by having their own children attend the school, their reward was an abundance of grace and the knowledge that today students benefit from that love of the church and their vision for our community. The school is operated as an independent school, following the policies of the Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA). It adheres to all the requirements of the B.C. Ministry of Education regarding curriculum, teacher qualifications, resources and facilities. It is operated locally by the Parish Education Committee, which sets local policy on school matters. Our goal, in a word, is EXCELLENCE in all learning, both human and divine.Thank you for your interest in our school. We look forward to working with you and your child(ren). With your support and involvement, we can continue to do great things in the future for the glory of God.
