PURDY’S CHOCOLATE AND GIFT CARD FUNDRAISERS

Dear parents, our second fundraiser of the year kicks off today with a double header.  Not only will we be offering Purdy’s Chocolates, but also a wide variety of Gift Cards (GCs) for purchase.  Look for the Purdy’s brochure in your oldest child’s folder today along with a letter of introduction to the GC fundraiser and a GC order form.  You may order your Purdy’s chocolates either online or by returning the order form along with payment to the school.  GCs are only able to be ordered via returning the order form along with payment before the deadline date to the school.

Pick-up is scheduled for Dec 15 & 16; however, if we can get everyone’s order submitted and sorted early, we may be able to schedule an early pick-up date during the school week.

HOLY CHILDHOOD

Last month students were given a Holy Childhood donation box. Students are asked to have their donation box returned to the school no later than THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD DRIVE

The grade 5 students are organizing our annual food drive for the Society of  St. Vincent de Paul.  The goal this year is to collect over 2000 non-perishable food items.  I am happy to announce that we surpassed our goal and collected our highest total of food ever -OVER 3100 items!!!  This is on average a total of 14 items per student!!

To put this in perspective, when the grade 5s started doing this drive 4 years ago, our target was 1000 food  items.  What makes this total even more special is the variety of food we received from everyone.  It showed that this event was not just about winning but truly coming together to help those in need.

I am so proud of how our students and parents have responded over the years and look forward to greater success in the years to come.

The entire school will have a non-uniform day this Friday, November 16th.

Gr. 1 won a second non-uniform day for bringing in 612 food items

Gr. 2 won a second non-uniform day and an extra-long recess for bringing in 672 food items

Gr. 4 won a pizza party, second non-uniform day and an extra-long recess for bringing in 850 food items.

The extra uniform days, long recesses and pizza party will be announce in the upcoming week.

CHILDREN BORN IN 2014

If you have a child who was born in 2014 and will be attending St. Bernadette School, it’s time to notify the school office so that we can keep a space open for your child. It is very important that we have an accurate numbers of siblings for Kindergarten.

Items for the clothing drive can be dropped off  on Nov. 13th 9-9:30am and 3-3:45,  Nov. 14th 9-9:30 and 2:15-2:45,   Nov. 15th  9-9:30 and 3-3:45   Nov.16th 9-9:30 and 3-3:45, Nov. 18th 9:00am-1:00pm and Nov. 19th 9-9:30 and 3-3:45, drop off location is by the Gym doors.  Bags are available  at the office.

BRINGING TOYS AND GAMES TO SCHOOL

St. Bernadette School at this time, does not prevent students from bringing toys and games to school.  Children like to bring items to school to play and share with other kids.  The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damage items.  It is recommended that if the toy is of value to the family, that it should stay at home.  Please have a talk with your child that they only bring items to school that would not cause devastation if it goes missing or is broken.  At anytime, the school reserves the right to ask a child not to bring in their personal items to school if the school feels it is inappropriate to have at school and/or if it is causing issues among their peers.

Grade 6s & 7s – YOU’RE INVITED!

Please come join us from 6:30-8:30pm on Wed., Nov. 21st, 2018 for a special Youth Night just for you!  Meet our current grade 8’s and ask them any and everything you’re curious about St John Paul II Academy. We will play games and enjoy snacks/drinks together too.  See you in the gym at the Star of the Sea Parish Hall located at 15262 Pacific Avenue, White Rock.

REMINDERS

SCHOOL CLOSURE

In the event of weather conditions, or unforeseen circumstances, the pastor, chairperson and principal will decide whether or not the school will be open on that day. Notice of school closures will be announced on CKNW 980 on the AM dial and posted on the school website when possible. Please do not call the school; it is important that we keep all lines free in case of an emergency.

ABSENTEE NOTES

If your child has been absent from school for any reason, an absentee note MUST be submitted to the school.  Absentee notes is a requirement from  the Ministry of Education. You may pick up an Absent Form from the office or download one from our website.

GENERAL  REMINDERS

If you are bringing anything to the school for your child (lunch, homework, etc.), please leave the item in the green bin outside the classroom.  Please do not disturb the class for any reason.  If you are picking your child up during school hours for an appointment, etc., please sign him or her out and have Mrs. Gelz or Mrs. Spanjers get your child from their class.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

With the cold and rainy season coming, please make sure your child is appropriately dressed for the weather. Students are expected to go outside for recess in order to get some exercise and fresh air. Coats, gloves, hats and boots are recommended, depending on the weather. Please make sure your child has everything he or she needs before coming to school.

If it is raining when your child comes to school, the students are permitted to go directly into the classrooms. They must still go through their designated doors and not through the front doors. Any outdoor footwear must be removed immediately upon entering the school. Please make sure that all coats, boots, umbrellas, etc. are labeled with your child’s name.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

Any parents who wish to volunteer at the school to work one on one with students and wish to volunteer to drive students must have a criminal record check.  You can apply for the Criminal Record Check on line,

The online link is :    https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC

Access Code is: V5BDJZSE9J

There is no cost associated with the criminal check if you are volunteering.

USED UNIFORMS

Used uniforms are needed to help re-stock the shelves for our used uniforms.  If you have any used uniform items to donate, please contact Angeline at:  useduniforms@stbernadette.ca

All proceeds generated from the sales of used uniforms comes directly back to the school.

LABEL YOUR UNIFORMS

We notice that quite often we find uniforms in the lost and found without student names on it. It is important to label your uniforms and to relabel them throughout the year if you are using a marker on a tag.
