USED UNIFORMS

We will once again be having the “Used Uniforms” program.  One of our parents, Angeline Yaschyshyn, has kindly volunteered to  be in charge of  keeping inventory and distributing the requested used uniform item.  If you have any school uniform and/or gym strip items and shoes that your child has outgrown and would like to donate to the “Used Uniform” program, please contact Angeline Yaschyshyn via e-mail:useduniforms@stbernadette.ca.  The used uniform items will be sold at a very inexpensive rate and all proceeds generated from the sales come back directly to the school.  We hope to have this program up and running soon.

SCHOOL CHOIR

The last practice for the School Choir will be on Monday, May 8th.  The choir will resume next school year as long as we get enough parent help/supervision.  Mrs. Ellis, our current music director will not be available, Mr. Roy will be taking her place.  The role of the parent will strictly be to supervise the students and to ensure their safety when being dismissed from practice.  This volunteer commitment will count as parent participation hours.  Please contact the office if you are able to help out with this commitment.

MOTHER’S DAY TEA

Mother’s Day Tea will be on Thursday, May 11th from 10:00am-11:00am.  There will be our morning Mass led by the Grades 1 & 4.  Following Mass, we will gather in the parish hall for light refreshments.  Our Students will perform to entertain our guests.  Notices have been sent home so we can prepare in advance.  Please return the form back to the school at your earliest convenience.

If any Dad’s would like to volunteer for that morning with setting up, preparing & clean-up, please contact Mrs. Fraser, grade2@stbernadette.ca or 604-596-1101 .

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Each year at the beginning of May, comic book stores around the world offer a selection of free comic books to its customers.  This is another great avenue to get young people interested in reading.  It is important that parents accompany their child(ren) as there might be some comics that are not suitable for young children.  This year the date is Saturday May 6th, 2017, please contact your local comic book store to see if they are participating.

MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU

Tomorrow is international Star Wars day.  To help celebrate the fun, any student who wishes to come in a Star Wars costume or t-shirt may do so.  We ask that all weapons such as lightsabers and blaster, stay at home.

PIANO IN THE PARISH HALL

If you or if you know the person who donated the piano in the parish hall, could you please come and speak with Mr. van der Pauw about its location and future in the school.

ST BERNADETTE’S SPELLING BEE

If you were not at our annual spelling bee on Monday, you missed an epic battle that took place between James Viola and Niko Marcario.  Both students went head to head for 20+ rounds.  The students finished all the age appropriate categories and were well into grade 9 spelling words by the time the bee ended.  Both deserve high praise for their accomplishments.  Our top 3 finishers were:

1. Niko Macario

2. James Viola

3. Chiasa Guerrero

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the event!

WALKATHON

Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual walkathon last week.  Special thanks to all the parents in our community who helped organize the event and walked with us on our journey. We had great weather and the students were filled with excellent spirit.  We were blessed to have Fr. Paul and Fr. Jimmy participate in the walk this year.  Many thanks also goes out to the RCMP and their bike unit for accompanying us on our routes.

Reminders

TRACK AND FIELD

Track and Field typically has the largest participation of any sport (usually over 100 students participating) and with the large amount of students to train and supervise we are in need of volunteers. There are many areas to help with, but we are very much in need of support in the following areas:

Drivers to track Meets –  Wed. May 10th and Wed. June 7th

If you are able to help out, please email Ms. De Sousa ;   grade2@stbernadette.ca

CONSTRUCTION

The city of Surrey will be installing a new water main on 65B Ave.  The will involve road work in the area for roughly a month.  We ask for your patience and courtesy towards the workers during this time.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. van der Pauw through the office.

FUN CASINO NIGHT – June 24th, 2017

Knights of Columbus #8629 is hosting a Fun Casino Night.  There will be 3 grand prizes given away, a silent auction, pot lucky and a raffle draw.  Tickets are $25 and includes $5,000 in play money and free snacks.  There will be a cash bar.  Doors open at 6:30pm and the event starts at 7:00pm.  For tickets please call John Noel @ 604-594-0081 or John Smith @ 604-590-3797
