30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – TASTE OF THE NATIONS

This year is a special year as we celebrate out 30th Anniversary.  There is much to honour as we reflect on our school’s history.  In celebration, we will be hosting a Taste of the Nations Celebration.  It will be on Saturday February 18th, 2017.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  Proceeds from the event will support our ongoing legacy projects such as the remodelling of the classrooms and the new Learning Commons.

We would like to invite all St. Bernadette families in the highly anticipated fun-filled event featuring food and entertainment from around the world, a silent auction, DJ music, cash bar, raffle draw, 50/50 draw, and much more!

Your presence helps bring our community together and forms excellent bonds between our families.  Tickets are only $25 each and will be on sale until Feb. 10th, 2017.  We have limited seating.  Tickets are NOT available at the door so don’t miss out! (no minors)

When purchasing tickets by cheque, please make cheques payable to

St. Bernadette Parish.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – AGM – THURSDAY JANUARY 19TH – 6:30PM – 7:30PM

St. Bernadette’s Annual General Meeting is taking on a new look this year.  Inspired by the model of the World Cafe, the evening is designed to be one of community building, dialog, and obtaining important information in regards to tuition, school improvements, funding, election of the Parent Support Group, and much more.  Attendance is mandatory for all family.  Every family that attends receives an hour towards their parent participation hours.

SEXUALITY AND YOUR CHILD PRESENTATION

On Thursday January 19th at 7:30pm (after the AGM), St. Bernadette Elementary will be hosting the Sexuality and you Child Presentations (for Grade 4, 5, 6, and 7 parents and guardians).  It is sponsored by the Archdioceses and attendance is mandatory.  The evening is part of the Religious Education and Physical and Health Education (PHE) courses for your child.  This night is designed to empower parents to recognize their role as primary educators in faith and truth in human sexuality.

Every session has a separate topic for parents and these topics change from year to year.   Each session is reviewed and updated each year so you can expect a fresh presentation even if you have attended specific sessions previously.  The objective of this evening is for parents to gain confidence in their ability to communicate about sexuality to their children. The speakers this year are:

Gr. 4 – Luise Van Nort – Signal Hill

Gr. 5 – Mike Field – CISVA Principal

Gr. 6 – Patrick Gillespie – CISVA Superintendent’s Office

Gr. 7 – Tia MacDougall – Signal Hill

UPCOMING EVENTS

30th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – TASTE OF THE NATIONS – The Taste of the Nations Committee is well underway with the planning of the event.  The committee is in need of support with set up and clean up and running various activities during the event.  If you are able to help out, please keep your eye on your emails for an alert from OnVolunteer.  We are in need of roughly 20 -30 parents to help with the event.

FAMILY BINGO NIGHT JAN 13th – After its huge success and popularity last year, we are excited to once again host this family fun event.  We are in need of volunteers to help run the event.  If you would like to sign up to help, please go to OnVolunteer to sign up or contact Stephannie Drysdale at fundraising@stbernadette.ca. Currently we are in need of volunteers to take payments and hand out bingo cards on the night of the event.

OPEN HOUSE & NEW FAMILY INFORMATION NIGHT

January marks the time of the year where we kick off registration for the 2017-2018 school year.  We are seeing an increase in interest in our school as evident by the number of phone calls and application forms that have been handed in since the beginning of January!

There are two events that we would like you to pass along to new families – the Open House and New Family Information Night.

OPEN HOUSE – Our annual Open House is on Sunday January 29th from 9am – 1pm.  If you know of families who might like to attend, please pass along this invite.

NEW FAMILY INFORMATION NIGHT – On Wednesday February 8th from 6:30 – 7:30 I will be hosting a new family information night in the school library.  It is designed to be a small gathering of parents that will receive information on the various aspects of the school.  Please send this invitation out to any new families you may know.  They must register for the evening so that we have enough packages for everyone who attends.
