LIGHTS OF HOPE

We trust everyone has had an opportunity to partake in our annual Lights of Hope campaign this Christmas Season.  This weekend will be the final weekend for selling bulbs after Mass.  We hope everyone is able to sell their ten bulbs.  If you would like more tickets, please contact the office.  We would like to thank you in advance for your support and dedication to this meaningful and important fundraising event.

SPIRIT WEEK

In the last week of school before Christmas break, our Student Council host Spirit Week activities.  It is a week where students come together to celebrate the Christmas season and partake in fun and games.  Each day has a different theme and activity for the students.  This year Student Council has decided on the following themes and activities:

Monday Dec. 18th  – “Merry Monday Morning!” – Students can come to school as if they just woke up.  They can wear “bed-head” hair and their pj’s.  Student Council will be doing Christmas crafts/colouring with the younger students at lunch recess.

Tuesday Dec. 19th – “Christmas Colours or Character” – Students can come to school wearing Green/Red or dressed as their favourite Christmas character.  The entire school will be going to see the film called “The Star”.  More information is below.

Wednesday Dec. 20th – “Winter Wonderland” – Students can come dressed in their favourite winter items.  At lunch recess students will be invited to play in small sided hockey games.

Thursday Dec. 21st – “Ugly Sweater Day” – Wear your tackiest, brightest, funniest, Christmas sweater or shirt. .  Students will be invited into a Christmas Village hosted by Student Council

Friday Dec. 22nd – “Candy Cane Day” – Come dressed in red, white and green!  We will start the day with Mass in the Church so no masks, crazy hair or face paint please.  After Mass, we will gather in the gym for Christmas Carols and a short movie.  Dismissal is at 12:15pm.

Don’t have one of the items to wear listed above?  No problem – students who don’t have a something to wear can come dressed in Christmas colours or their uniform if they desire.

THE STAR FILM VIEWING FIELD TRIP

A Christmas gift from the school to your child.  We are happy to announce that we will be taking the entire school on see the film “The Star” at the Strawberry Hill Cinemas.

In The Star, a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told – the first Christmas.

Permission forms will be going home this week.  Please be on the look out. On Tuesday, December 19th students will leave the school at noon by bus and return around 2:30pm.  We are not in need of parent supervisors, however, if parents would like to join us the cost will be $10.00 per ticket and parents will have to transport themselves.  The concession will be closed for the viewing.

Reminders

2018-2019 APPLICATION FORMS

We are now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year.  With increased interest in our school, the demand for spots has also increases.  We are estimating 20 or less spots for Kindergarten and only one or two spots per grade from 1 – 7.  If you know of someone who would like to attend St. Bernadette, please have them pick up an application form from the school/parish or download one from our website.

BINGO – IN DANGER OF CLOSING!

There was miscommunication in the recent bulletin that stated Bingo had enough volunteers.  It has in fact received interest, but no commitment at this point.

Our St. Bees Bingo is in critical need of more volunteers!  If we do not have enough volunteers trained an in place by December 19th, we will have to close our Bingo.  Please consider volunteering one Tuesday evening a month to keep our Bingo open.  We are most in need of callers!

The revenue that the parish receives from bingo is significant ($75,000+ annually) with the majority of the funds going to the school.  It is the main fundraiser for our school. With Bingo gone it would be a great loss felt by our parish and school community.  PLEASE,   Contact the Bingo office at 604-596-1833 if you can help.
