MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU.
STAR WARS DAY 2016
May the 4th, is universal Star Wars day where kids and fans alike celebrate the magic of the films and industry. It is a fun day where those who are into the films and books get a chance to dress up to celebrate the day. With Star Wars being as heavily involved in literature as it is with its films (graphic novels, comics, novels, etc.) it has provided another source for children to get into reading.
For those who may not know, the original story line was heavily borrowed from ancient samurai myths, and the Christian faith. One can find several online resources that speak to its Christian influences. Its reference to Christianity has even been used in high school religion courses.
Tomorrow, I am allowing students who wish to come in full costume to do so. Wearing a Star Wars hat or t-shirt does not equate a costume and therefore it will not be allowed. I have some comic books based on superheroes to give away as prizes to classrooms. We ask that you keep the lightsabers and blasters at home as we have a very strict no weapons policy. Those that have the lightsaber handle with no sword will be allowed.
I look forward to seeing some of the children in the school celebrating the day.
On a similar note, don’t forget that this Saturday, May 7th, is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. Many comic book stores, including Toy Traders in Langley, will be giving away free comic books. Please attend this event with your child as some of the comics are geared towards an older audience.
