CONCUSSION AWARENESS
BC Injury Research & Prevention Unit (BCIRPU) is very pleased to inform parents that the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) for schools and parents has now been launched and is available at http://www.cattonline.com/
CATT was developed in partnership with the BC Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. It provides schools and parents with the necessary resources for support a concussed child in their integration back to school:
– RECOGNIZE the signs and symptoms of a concussion
– RESPOND to a concussion event
-understand what a student needs to RECOVER from a concussion
– PREPARE for a student’s return to school
– support a student’s RETURN to learning and activities
– PREVENT and support PRACTICE through strategies and POLICIES
We hope you can take the time to review this important resource.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CLUB
Plans are already in the works for next year. The club aims to find activities for students to do in all seasons. Next year the goal is to take students skiing at Whistler. The trip will be for two separate days and is open to all students currently in grades 4-6. Parents are more than welcome to attend. We need 40 people to make the trip a go. If you would like to attend, please send back the form (sent home last week), along with a $10 deposit per person attending. If we do not get enough attendees, the $10 deposit will be returned.
BOOK FAIR/LITERACY NIGHT – TOMORROW!
The Scholastic Book Fair is here!
Tuesday, February 23rd to Thursday, February 26th.
If you cannot attend, you may use the Student Wish List order form and send it back to school with your child, along with payment in the correct amount (cash or cheque) and one of our volunteers can assist you child with their purchase.
Our annual Family Literacy Night will be held on Thursday February 26th 6:30-8:30pm. Your family can shop together, participate in literacy activities and enter our Book Fair Draw. You could win $50 worth of books – $25 for your family and $25 for your child’s teacher. During the event, we also invite you to help build up our library by purchasing books and donating them to the school through the Classroom Wish List program, which will be displayed in the library.
GUEST AUTHOR SUZANNE DE MONTIGNY
Catholic writer, Suzanne de Montigny, will be guest author at St. Bernadette’s Literary Night. She’ll speak about her award-winning, Amazon bestselling middle grade fantasy novel The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Legacy, and launching her latest release, The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Deception.Plus, she’ll give a preview of her upcoming teen book, A Town Bewitched.
Mrs. de Montigny, having a minor visual impairment, will also talk about the Third World Eye Care Society, a group of eye specialists who travel to third world countries bringing thousands of pairs of glasses and performing eye surgery for free. She will be collecting used eyeglasses from the students to donate to TWECS. For each pair of glasses donated, your child will be eligible for one ticket in a draw for a t-shirt of The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Legacy. Children’s glasses are especially needed. So pull out all those old glasses and send them on down to the office. (Please no sunglasses, prescription or otherwise, and definitely no 3-D glasses.)
Suzanne’s novels will also be available for sale. The cost is $10.00 per book with half of her proceeds donated to the Third World Eye Care Society. A form was sent home with your child to fill out if you wish to order a copy.
