SCHOOL UNIFORMS
I have noticed recently that there is a growing number of students that are coming regularly to school out of uniform. It is important that all students come to school dressed in our school uniform. Our uniform is issued by Cambridge Uniforms. Pants and shirts bought from department stores or other locations are not part of our school uniform. The guidelines for the uniform are found in the parent handbook and in the student agenda. If non-compliance continues, a letter will be sent home with the child asking the parents to send their child to school in proper uniform. If you are having issues with obtaining a uniform we do have some used items and you are more than welcome to speak with the school in how to assist you in obtaining the proper items for your child.
VOLLEYBALL CAMP
Junior Crusader Volleyball program is geared for girls currently in grades 4&5 who want to increase their volleyball skills and love of the game. For some players, this will be their first introduction to the sport so there will be a large focus on fun while learning new skills. This is a great opportunity to have fun, make new friends and learn the game. Cost is $80. Program runs every Saturday 9:30-11:00 April 7-June 9 @ Holy Cross Regional High School. If you are interested: email bgrandia@holycross.bc.ca to secure a spot before March 9.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HEAD LICE
Dear Parents,
Over the last few weeks, teachers have received emails with concerns over head lice and the school’s approach in handling it. In reading these emails and listening to how children talk about lice, I thought it is important to share accurate and factual information about head lice. Please discuss the following points with your children so that we can remove the stigma around head lice.
1. Lice are not a major heath concern. They are spread by head to head contact but do not cause disease.
2. Lice love clean human hair. Lice do not spread or cause diseases.
3. Lice do not jump or fly. lice will not jump or fly from one hat to another. They live on human hair and do not travel from hat to hat, only from head to head through direct contact.
4. Lice are spread by head to head contact and by sharing brushes, hats, or other items that come in contact with the head. Lice trapped inside a hat, will move to human hair when the hair comes in direct contact with the hat. They will not jump from the hat to a person’s hair. St. Bernadette’s has rules that children are not share hats.
5. Head lice are common where children play or work closely together. For example, schools, playgrounds, sports teams, group lessons, family gatherings, etc. are common places for a child to come in contact with head lice.
6. Lice do not cause disease… they just bug us! Lice are not a major health concern. The lice do cause families to feel frustration, a child to perhaps stay home and miss school during treatment and undue financial burden for the cost of treatment costs money and unnecessary embarrassment because of the myths around lice that are being promoted by ill informed individuals.
St. Bernadette’s is committed to ending the stigmatism that exists around head lice and we ask for your help in providing the correct information and speaking with your children.
All of this information can be found on the Fraser Health website.
